CDBurnerXP update: 4.3.9.2762 (written by floele)

A new version 4.3.9.2762 of CDBurnerXP has been released yesterday. This version features primarily two changes:

- Updated DVD-Video burning capability: Simplifies burning video DVDs a little and in particular shows this functionality in the startup screen.

- New MSI installer (based on WiX) with better deployment capabilities.
Important here: Remove any previous version of CDBurnerXP before using the new MSI installer.

Unfortunately, I still could not include the latest StarBurn burning library for some additional bugfixes, since there is still an issue with audio burning that needs to be resolved.

CDBurnerXP beta 4.3.9 - beta 2 (written by floele)

A new version of CDBurnerXP with an updated burning library is now available:

http://cdburnerxp.se/downloads/cdbxp_se ... 9.2747.exe

I'd appreciate if some people could try to use it and spot any potential new issues. Last release with an updated burning library did not go too well without tests. Thanks :)

This release should in particular solve the issues
- CStarBurn_ScsiTransportSPTI::ExecuteCDB(): Command failed
- WIN32 error: CStarBurn_StarWaveFile::RealRead() (when burning short audio files)

Also new in beta 2:
- New DVD-Video burning interface, also exposed in startup dialog.
- Fixed error when shutting down after burning (MarshalDirectiveException)

Scheduled downtime: 01.00-08.00 CEST (written by floele)

For server maintenance, cdburnerxp.se will be offline from 01.00 to 08.00 CEST tomorrow (1st June).

OpenCandy update: Latest versions cleared by MSE (written by floele)

The OpenCandy team has written a pretty extensive article on what happened. I'd recommend you to read it, I couldn't add much information to it.

Further reading: What Information Does OpenCandy Collect?

tl;dr: Recent versions of OpenCandy are no longer detected as adware, their software recommendation component is now even less intrusive. There has not been a threat to your privacy or security.

Adware alert in Microsoft Security Essentials (written by floele)

Hi all,

I am aware of the fact that CDBurnerXP setup files are currently flagged as adware by Microsoft Security Essentials, more specifically it alerts about "Adware:Win32/OpenCandy".
This issue is being worked on. Actually, it is an error of Microsoft Security Essentials, and OpenCandy is working together with Microsoft in order to fix the problem. Still, CDBurnerXP nor OpenCandy will install any malicious software on your computer, nor will it install anything without your consent. If you'd like to avoid the OpenCandy setup file anyway for now, you can download the portable version from the website or preferably wait a while until the OpenCandy free installers are (as always) also available on the download page.
Sorry for the worries this isue might have caused.

Update: Microsoft has explained what exactly they don't like of OpenCandy, and a new version which complies to the requirements of Microsoft Security Essentials will be released soon.

Best regards,
Florian

Thanks for all the gifts (written by floele)

I just want to thank everyone who sent me a nice gift during the past few days. I've received them and had or will have fun with them :)

Translation time (written by floele)

Hi again,

our translator for Turkish will have to join the military soon, I'd be happy if we could find someone who helps out for a while. Also, there are a couple of other outdated translations - if anyone wants to help with these, let me know.

New version: 4.3.7 and OpenCandy (written by floele)

I released a new version just now that extends the disc splitting functionality which has been introduced recently, and also improves the file filter functions of CDBurnerXP. This feature wasn't that much useful previously. In particular, you can now use this feature to only add files of a particular type, instead of just changing the file browser view. The filter will be remembered and used on the next start of CDBurnerXP.

Also, instead of Ask, we are now trying a cooperation with OpenCandy. What's different with OpenCandy, compared to Ask?

  • It does not increase the installer size noticably, since any components that might get installed are downloaded on demand.
  • It doesn't recommend only a single toolbar. There is a broad rage of applications, including one or two toolbars maybe, but also useful applications like TuneUp, Xobni, or Snagit.
  • It's "opt-in", not "opt-out". So you won't get installed software accidentially.
  • Because of the above point, I do not (or rather do not need to) offer setup packages without OpenCandy additionally*.
Feedback is as always appreciated.

*If you believe that it is still necessary to have such an installer, let me know.

New version: 4.3.5.2256 (written by floele)

A new version has just been released, with the new feature "disc spanning". You can use it to divide a data compilation on multiple discs or ISO images, by using "Disc --> Disc spanning" from the menu.
Additionally, a couple of bugs have been fixed.
